Mudd's Women
Kirk and the crew save Harry Mudd from his exploding ship, along with his "cargo" - three beautiful women. Lonely miners are willing make a trade.
Clearly a relic of a time before Star Trek was synonymous with "politically correct." There might be a feminist message in here somewhere, but it's overshadowed by Mudd's zany wiving scheme and a ship full of horny male Starfleet officers. Even Spock leers at the ladies as they stroll past! Eve's conflicts are confusing; she leaves home hating housework and wanting to be appreciated for her beauty, but fakes beauty and really wants to do housework? At no point does she - or her compatriots - inquire about or emulate the independent, professional female officers strewn about the Enterprise. Kirk's "believe in yourself" speech to Eve is somewhat inspiring, though how ingesting Jell-O straightens and shines one's hair is a mystery. At least we meet Harry Mudd, who returns in the more enjoyable I, Mudd in the second season, plus an animted episode.
Spock Saves the Day: Nay, he wisely stays out of this mess.
Oops: Our unemotional officer smirks his way through this debacle.
Developments: Apparently Vulcans aren't immune to feminine charm. Spock's later escapades suggest he responds to sexually overt women.
