More Tribbles, More Troubles

Cyrano Jones sells non-reproducing tribbles to a Klingon-inhabited planet, but the creatures are not so safe as believed. Soon Kirk finds himself in a very familiar set of circumstances.

A good case against genetic engineering, or simply against rehashing live-action episodes? Probably the latter, since all the best scenes and jokes from the classic Trouble with Tribbles reappear in this travesty. The only new elements are the Klingon weapon and tribble predator (whose is funny when it runs) but both are ineffective. Making the Tribbles giant doesn't generate excitement, and furthermore, why are they all pink? Too much work to paint them a variety of neutrals? Must be. What was a mean-spirited joke at the end of the original episode is now a tactical advantage: beaming Tribbles to the Klingons. But it's not amusing or interesting or anything. Waste of 23 minutes.

Spock Saves the Day: Spock tries a joke that Kirk uses as an actual plan. A rather roundabout way to rescue the ship, but it works.

Oops: The joke's not actually funny.

Developments: We would think Kirk knows of Spock's sneaky sense of humour by now, but since we're repeating so much, why not that too?
