The Lorelei Signal

The the male crewmembers are lured to a female-only society where their life forces are drained. Uhura and the women take charge.

Girl power! Nice to finally see Uhura in command (she's always had the presence for it) and the women prove as capable with phasers as their Y-chromosome counterparts. Obviously the female-only planet is better used here than in Spock's Brain, but neither presents a fully realized society, just some lonely chicks. These all look very much like She-Ra, remarkable considering the Princess of Power didn't grace screens till a decade later. The rapid aging we've seen in The Deadly Years, the alluring babes in Mudd's Women and elsewhere, so not much is new. There are some funny moments as the men see their fantasy women, or all start speaking like Shatner. And who knew Scotty could sing in Gaelic? Though many elements are familiar, this is on par with many live action episodes, and the reversal of power most interesting.

Spock Saves the Day: Spock, being slowest to age, crawls to the throne room to signal for help, then beckons Nurse Chapel.

Oops: Uhura discovers Spock's readings to be off, and for once, Spock is unaware of the extent to which his thoughts are being controlled.

Developments: The telepathic contact with Chapel bears examination. Spock has been understood to can't communicate anything but simple impulses without touch, and certainly not whole sentences! The explanation must lie in he and Chapel's experiences in Return to Tomorrow. They might have retained some sort of mental link after sharing consciousness. We suppose.
