What Are Little Girls Made Of?

Dr. Roger Korby has created lifelike androids, and plans to populate the galaxy with such beings - while placing himself too fully in his work.

Androids in TOS are remarkably advanced (compared to those in Star Trek: The Next Generation especially), but their implications are never fully considered. Themes like Korby's loss of humanity to technology and his flawed visions of a perfect world are explored much more fully in episodes to come. The two Kirks come a little too soon after The Enemy Within, but at least the doubling effects are improving. Chapel continues to be a sap, though her sobs are justified this time. More redshirts fall needlessly to their deaths. Ruk steals most scenes, with the memorable phrase "the old ones, the ones who made us." Kirk takes his first shot at psyching out computers, and single-handedly foils Korby's plan, while stealing kisses. That's what Starfleet captains are made of.

Spock Save the Day: Sadly not. He arrives too late to be of use.

Oops: Why not beam to the cabin, instead of wandering round the caves? At least he didn't fall into an open pit like one of those ensigns.

Developments: The "half-breed" code word foreshadows Kirk's string of equally uncreative, lame insults in This Side of Paradise.
