The Alternative Factor

Lazarus is a time-traveler who appears to have a split personality. But there are actually two men whose contact would mean the destruction of two opposite universes.

Definitely a "what were the writers smoking?" episode, especially given the run of strong stories preceding it. We've got every conceivable phenomenon thrown in: time travel, alternate universes, a rip in the fabric of space and time, galactic corridors, dilithium crystals, and "winking out." We're not strict with science here at Spock Lives, but this is utterly bogus. Redeeming features? Good use of superimpositions, smoke, and negatives for the inter-dimensional fist fight, though the swirling frame is swiped from fellow '60s series Batman. Lazarus is lame, but his screaming and falling off cliffs is actually hilarious. Sadly these moments don't make up for stretches of tedium and nonsense. A long, strange trip not entirely worth taking.

Spock Saves the Day: Spock tries to explain it all . . .

Oops: . . . but can't.

Developments: Trying to extract meaning from this mess is hopeless.
