The Nitpicker's Guide for Classic Trekkers
By Phil Farrand
A complete look at all Star Trek: The Original Series episodes and films, from the perspective of a wickedly insightful nitpicker.
Forget your authorized encyclopedias and compediums: this is the must-have reference book for, well, Classic Trekkers. From summaries to great moments to lists of stills, it gets full points for completism and covers all 79 installments plus The Cage and the six films. (No Animated Series, alas.) The best feature is, naturally the nitpicks, with all production oversights, continuity errors, plot holes, and "huh?" moments accounted for. These range from thought-provoking (why is Kirk immune to everything?) to downright hilarious. (McCoy calling his Vulcan friend "Spwawnck" in The Deadly Years.) If that's not enough, there are trivia challenges, tallies (how many redshirts bite the dust?), Oscars (what's Kirk's worst speech?) and the major themes of TOS outlined. Farrand's enthusiasm is catching. This the only non-fiction book we've encountered that fully captures the fun of sitting around with friends heckling the series.
